This book was interesting and I would probably recommend it, but it wasn't good enough to really get me interested in the topics beyond the book. Unlike Fast Food Nation which played a small role in my becoming Vegan, this book didn't motivate me to change my lifestyle or start to care about things that I didn't care about before. So it was nice entertainment for the moment, but doesn't really have any lasting effects on me because I knew where I stood on the topics beforehand and the book didn't change my opinions, it only qualified them.
Pretty much, my entries say it all.
Through reading your other posts about this book it has captivated my interest and I think that I may pick it up to read sooner (or later) But I don't think the main point of this book was to change people's lifestyles like Fast Food Nation did. This is a book to raise awareness of issues in our country. And based on what you have wrote, the book has done just that; it took issues that we have and addressed them to the reader in an intelligent fasion. And as a question: Where do you stand on all of these topics?
ReplyDelete1. on weed, I support legalization and medical.
ReplyDelete2. on illegal immigrants and the below minimum wage status of the strawberry pickers, I think they should be accepted into the country and taken care of. I mean, what ever happened to "give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" on the statue of liberty?
3. On porn it's pretty clear that while I think it's disgusting I think no one has the right to tell someone else what is 'too obscene'.
4. and then i address Schlosser's final opinions in the section 4 blog.
